Why I built it
I kept hearing about things after they had happened. A market I would have gone to. A one-night event. Something interesting happening two suburbs away that I somehow never saw.
Brisbane Unlocked started because I wanted a better answer to one very ordinary question: what is actually happening in Brisbane this week?
The more I built, the more obvious it became that Brisbane did not have a shortage of things to do. It had a visibility problem. So what started as something I wanted for myself became a much bigger project.
You shouldn’t need to follow dozens of accounts to know what’s happening in your own city.

The bit underneath
Finding the information is only the start. The harder part is turning thousands of differently written listings into something you can actually browse. Dates, suburbs, categories, venues, duplicates, all of it has to make sense together.
Brisbane Unlocked does that work in the background, so when you ask “What’s on in West End this Saturday?”, there’s actually a useful answer.
It’s not the glamorous part. It’s the part that makes everything else possible.
What is next
First
More venues, more local finds, and more of the small things that are easy to miss. There is always more Brisbane to uncover.
Then
Not a smaller version of the website, but the more personal side of Brisbane Unlocked: the places you saved, the things you meant to come back to, and what is happening around you when you are already out.
No dates. I’d rather build it properly than pretend I know exactly when each piece will land.
